...............You would think with the poor election turnout for our recent election,  the Supervisor of Elections would be promoting the runoff elections a bit better...ie on the homepage! However, I did find this on the site. All regular polling places within the city of Tampa will be open.

Early Voting Period: March 19 – March 24, 2007

Last Day to Request an Absentee Ballot:  March 21, 2007 - 5:00 p.m.

"Oh My God!  Was that today?"

"That, was today?  I knew it was sometime soon"

"Damn, I meant to.  I just forgot"

"No"

"What vote?  Who was running?"

"Why bother?  Too small an election.  Can't be important"

THESE WERE REAL AND ARE DISHEARTENING, TO SAY THE LEAST.

It is not quite 5:30 and a whopping 150 people have voted today in an election that is extremely important to SH!  I voted first thing this morning, it took under five minutes and I know I had my chance to help SH have a political voice in the next four years.

If you don't vote, then please say nothing in the next four years about how anything is run in the City of Tampa!  You don't have the right!

The candidates that will help our area of town, need your support.  You have an hour plus to get out there and have a voice!

GET OFF THE COUCH, OUTTA THE BAR, OUT FROM IN FRONT OF THE COMPUTER, OR YOUR STOVE AND VOTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YOU HAVE TO VOTE TO HAVE A SAY!!

Dear Neighborhood,

The city elections are almost upon us. This Tuesday we will decide upon a Mayor and City Council that over the next four years will be making the critical decisions affecting the future of our city. Unfortunately, it appears that voter turnout will be very low. It is therefore extremely important that every vote count. I urge you to turn out to vote and to vote on the ISSUES and not the amount of yard signs that a particular candidate may have purchased. Luckily, the League of Women Voters Candidate Forums will be shown on City TV over the weekend (the schedule is included below). Also, the major newspapers in the region have made endorsements of candidates. These endorsements were the result of several questionnaires and an in depth interview with each candidate. These are resources that your residents can use to make an informed decision.

The stakes are high. Growth, transportation, parking , infrastructure, traffic calming, arts, property taxes, historic preservation, the environment, code enforcement and zoning. Decisions on each of these topics, and others, will be made by the people that we vote into office on Tuesday. And these decisions will affect Tampa for many years to come. Please lets make sure that we make the right choices. And lets make sure that this election is decided by more than 20% of the electorate. After all, if we don't vote, we certainly can't complain about the actions of our government.

Lets Play A Trading Game!

Ah Spring! Soon signs of spring will be everywhere.  New flowers, green grasses and WEEDS! Weeds, chick weed, dollar weed, snipe sign weed.  You know those annoying signs along the traffic corridores offering up the local candidates. As we are heading into the heat of the snipe sign season, was thinking of how we could minimize the ugliness.  We all have our favorite candidates and for sure we will see their signs and in our minds, make an exception for how much of a blight on the landscape they are because, after all, they are OUR candidate!  And the good news about these snipe signs is that 99% of them come down the night and morning of the close of the election.  The other ones.  The "buy my crummy house for only a quarter down and monthly payments of just under $1500, for as long as you can handle it at which point I will kick you out and resell it" signs are annual weeds.  And in Fla that means they ugly up the landscape 24/7.  And no matter how many of them you pick, there are new ones which sprout up immediately.  Some are hand written, some are printed.  All are ugly.

So wanted everyone to consider making a trade.  While you are putting up the sign of your favorite political candidate, how about putting  it up in place of one of the year round ugly house signs, and putting that sign in the garbage?  I think if everyone helped to remove these weed signs as soon as they sprouted it would be a bit like the improvement of the prostitution situation along Nebraska.  They don't come as often when it costs them money.  It costs them money when our attention makes they and their johns uncomfortable.  If every time a weed sign is posted in SH, someone plucks it up.  It will get costly and they will get the message.  Will take awhile, but it would work!
