The University of South Florida's Division of Continuing Education offers short-term professional courses that can help you achieve success as a Marketing or PR practitioner by improving your organizational abilities and knowledge. The summer offerings include:
Media Relations provides insights on effective ways to cultivate a positive relationship with the media. Learn to use a press conference, an interview with a newspaper reporter, or a talk show to get your message across. This course will also help you to develop an effective crisis communications plan. The instructor John Heagney has many years of public relations experience dealing with a wide variety of media, from small-town weeklies to major metropolitan daily newspapers, radio and television. This course is offered on Friday/Saturday, July 23-24 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Fee is $210.
Creative Advertising explores proven techniques to help you deliver your advertising message in a memorable and effective way. You will examine case studies and analyze successful creative campaigns. The instructor Michael J. Griffin, president of Griffin Marketing Services, is an award-winning journalist, writer, advertising executive, consultant and director.This course is offered on Friday/Saturday, Aug. 13-14, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Fee is $210.
Public Relations Writing teaches you how to improve your writing skills and to tailor messages for various audiences and media. You will also learn how to produce public relations materials and media kits. The course is taught by John Heagney, who is also president and founder of John Heagney Public Relations, one of the Tampa Bay area's largest public relations agencies. This course is offered on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 27-28, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at USF Tampa. Fee is $210.
All courses are offered at the USF Tampa campus. Courses can be taken individually or as part of the Public Relations certificate program offered by USF Continuing Education.
