Free Tax Preparation Offered Through Hillsborough County’s Prosperity Campaign
Free tax preparation is available to those who earned less than $50,000 in 2010. Prosperity Campaign IRS-certified preparers and trained volunteers are available at convenient sites throughout Hillsborough County to help residents complete the paperwork and electronically file their tax returns. In addition, residents will be assisted in applying for the earned income tax credit, child tax credit, and other tax credits for which they are eligible. This year, qualified taxpayers can receive up to $5,666 in earned income tax credit.
The Prosperity Campaign of Hillsborough County represents a coalition of public, private and non-profit partners working together toward the shared goal of helping our county's most financially vulnerable families succeed. Hillsborough County and the United Way of Tampa Bay engage in outreach efforts to promote the earned income tax credit and other valuable tax benefits, provide free tax filing services through multiple locations, and offer financial education and coaching to empower families to better understand their options when it comes to spending, saving and borrowing. The goal is to help families build assets, use credit wisely, and ultimately achieve financial stability.

Position Overview
The Financing Account Manager at the Upper Manhattan Business Solutions Center (UMBSC) will serve as a relationship manager and primary point of contact between the business customers in need of access to capital and the UMBSC. Specifically, the Account Manager - Financing will be responsible for identifying entrepreneurs in low to moderate income communities who are in need of financing assistance and providing them services that lead to the successful achievement of a loan. The position requires experience with providing direct small business assistance, as well as in depth knowledge of small business lending, financial analysis and credit analysis.
Responsibilities:
Business Services
Assist businesses in obtaining financing by identifying the appropriate lender(s) for the businesss need and preparing loan packages (developing, gathering and reviewing financial documents, preparing loan applications, reviewing business plans, etc.);
Develop relationships with banks, credit unions, alternative lenders, credit building organizations and community development organizations that can provide complementary services to UMBSC customers that need a loan;
Conduct courses in financial management and access to financing in order to better prepare customers to receive services and/or manage their loan;
Obtain approximately 50 loan awards a year for low to moderate income customers; and
Participate in financing service working groups with other Account Managers - Financing from UMBSC across the city in order to identify best practices, improve efficiencies and overcome obstacles to achieving outcomes.
Marketing and Sales
Market the UMBSC its services to new and existing business customers through direct business outreach activities;
Leverage partners as referral sources for financing customers who require loan packaging assistance;
Acquire a sufficient volume of new customers with a need for UMBSC financing services to ensure the centers quarterly and annual goals can be achieved; and
Develop targeted sales strategies to acquire customers in low to moderate income areas with goals for customer acquisition, measure the success of those strategies on an ongoing basis, and adjust course as needed in order to ensure that sales targets are being achieved.
Work Management
Create and maintain complete records of customer accounts, including detailed content on sales and service delivery activities completed and full profile information for the business customer, in the systems CRM database;
Respond to all customer inquiries in a timely and appropriate manner, in accordance with quality assurance best practices and Center standards;
Attend trainings and mentoring sessions as provided by UMBSC in order to enhance financing skills; and
Provide feedback to team members, the Center Director, and SBS on an ongoing basis in order to improve the systems ability to achieve outcomes and provide high-quality financing services.
Qualifications:
Extensive experience in small business lending;
Strong understanding of small business lending policies and practices including developing and reviewing financial statements, loan packaging and loan underwriting;
Understanding of commercial banking regulations, operations and credit practices;
Proven track record in acquiring and retaining business customers;
Demonstrated knowledge of small business assistance and business support programs in New York City a plus;
Experience using customer relationship management tools or other database systems in order to track and manage services and outcomes;
Ability to manage towards goals in order to ensure the successful achievement of those goals by specific deadlines;
Ability to work effectively under pressure in both a team and individual setting;
Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills;
The ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with a diverse array of internal and external stakeholders;
Prior experience in a loan underwriting, loan consulting or accounting role a plus;
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and five years of professional experience in the areas described above; and
Masters degree is a plus.

The Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners wants to recognize the many positive contributions made by young people in our community through the Youth Excellence and Achievement Awards (YEA! Awards). Nominations are being accepted now through Feb. 25.
YEA! Awards nominations can be submitted for both middle and high school students in any of the following categories:
Leadership - demonstrating positive impact on others in an ongoing endeavor, such as sports, academics, the arts, etc.
Success Despite Difficult Odds - overcoming tremendous personal difficulty to attain success and a positive impact on others
Volunteer or Community Service - allocating their discretionary time to helping others or completing a project that has added to the betterment of our community

What: Neighborhood Stabilization Program Open House Tour

Where: 21 rehabilitated homes in the Plant City, Clair-Mel/Palm River, Gibsonton/Riverview and Orient Park areas of Hillsborough County
Hillsborough County Affordable Housing Department and its seven non-profit housing partners invite the public to join them at open houses around the county this Saturday to tour 21 beautiful, affordably-priced homes that have been fully rehabilitated with federal Neighborhood Stabilization Program grant funds and are now available for sale.
On the Neighborhood Stabilization Program website at: www..hillsboroughcounty.org/affordablehousingoffice/nsp/, photos and specifics of all of the homes and maps of the locations are available.
These homes are available for sale to households that make less than 120% of area median income. Eligible households could receive additional downpayment assistance up to $65,000 based on the value of the home. On-site staff at each home can provide details.
Rehabilitation improvements on these homes include repairs to bring the home up to building codes, programmable thermostats, extra insulation, Double EE windows, energy-efficient air conditioning units and water heaters, low-flush toilets, caulking and sealing of the homes. Some also include standard maintenance, such as newly pumped-out septic tanks and cleaned-out sewer lines.
