Tampa,
Fla. (July 13, 2009) – In response to the volume of homeowners needing
assistance with the foreclosure process, the City of Tampa’s Housing and
Community Development Division (HCD) will be offering foreclosure housing
counseling services. Families will be
guided through and educated on the federal government’s recently launched Making
Home Affordable Program (MHA).
The MHA provides homeowners assistance through the Home Affordable
Modification and Home Affordable Refinance programs. These programs will
provide assistance to eligible applicants by reducing mortgage payments to a
level that borrowers can afford both today and into the future. The refinancing option is only available to
loans owned by Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac.
A
centralized area offering updated information on upcoming neighborhood
meetings, details on the programs, foreclosure prevention tips and contact
information for other agencies offering free assistance may be found on the City
of Tampa’s website at www.tampagov.net/foreclosure.
Individual
foreclosure counseling services in English and Spanish are available at the HCD
offices, located at 2105 North Nebraska Avenue. For further assistance contact a City of Tampa HCD Counselor at (813) 274-7949 or call
the Hope for Homeowners Hot Line at 1-888-995-HOPE.
For more information, please contact HCD Manager
Sharon West at (813) 274-7954 or via email at sharon.west@tampagov.net .
