Details:
The Hillsborough House of Hope provides a home and guidance for women, who were once incarcerated, while they get their lives back in order. The program has been successful in rehabilitating 73 women who were previously in and out of the jail system. The women live in the home while going through counseling and programs to help them become productive members of society. There is a great need for programs like this. There are currently 25 women in the jail and prison system who are on the Hillsborough House of Hope’s waiting list. Unfortunately, there are only a limited number of openings in the house. With the opening of the 2nd house, seven women at a time can go through the Hillsborough House of Hope’s rehabilitation programs.
History
Margaret Palmer worked for many years in the county jails as a volunteer counselor for women. Over the years, she saw numerous inmates make significant changes in their lives. However, some of them, shortly after being released, would find their way back in jail. As a result, Margaret established the Hillsborough House of Hope.
