A couple of weeks ago, I met a man who came into where I work to look at the art, and we ended up talking. His name is Dr. Steven Arkin and interestingly enough I found out he lives and works in SH! I enjoyed our conversation and was very impressed with who he is and what he does. Not just an ordinary doctor, but a doctor whose goal is to give back!
Dr. Arkin, runs PEACE OF MIND Medical Care on MLK. His card says "Affordable Health Care. "Walk In on Mondays and Wednesdays." The Dr. says, "It is a place for people who can't afford regular health care." He actually encourages low income people to use his services!
I have thought about my conversation with Dr. Atkins for a couple of weeks now and over and over it has pleased me to think of someone with this particular agenda..............helping! I am fortunate enough to have good health insurance at the moment and do not need his services, but it is really quite wonderful knowing he is there to help those that can't find help in the regular channels. And what doctor these days has his cell phone on his card?
Dr. Steven Arkin, I am glad I met you. I will store the memory of our conversation in the place I put things I remember about special people. Good stuff for my old age memories!
Hello. I was referred to Dr. Arkin's office by a walk in clinic and I am very happy that I was! His wife & him are wonderful human beings. He spent more time with me than any doctor I've ever been seen by and I spent less time in the waiting area, than ever before! For a flat fee of $40 he answered all my questions did not rush me and gave me the prescription I needed.
How refreshing of an experience!!! There need to be more doctor practices like this.
Thank you!

What you may not know about Dr Arkin is that while he will see pregnant patients in his office and follow their prenatal care through a pregnancy he does not have privilages to deliver at any hospital in the Bay Area. So if you are seeing him as an OB he will simply tell you to go to the nearest hospital for emergency care and delivery. He gives you a copy of your records to take with you but the physcians upon whom your care will fall will have had no contact with you prior to your arival and those records can only tell them so much. I am a L&D nurse at one of thoe hospitals in the area and we have had several of this doctor's patients come into the hospital with severe and life threatening emergencies. Understandably emergencies can happen to any patient who sees any doctor however the optimal situation in these events would be to have the MD who knows your background be on hand to deal with anything that unfolds.
